SDS Alternative Testing Program

During the Spring 2025 semester, ATP supported:

  • 1,704 students
  • 265 instructors
  • 416 classes
  • 11,131 individual student exams

The Alternative Testing Program (ATP) is a centralized testing support program for students and faculty that provides proctors, testing spaces, logistical planning, and communications for exam accommodations.

The program aims to:

  • Provides all-inclusive exam support for students with exam accommodations
  • Centralize and streamline the implementation of exam accommodations to ensure a reliable, uniform exam experience for students across their participating classes
  • Collaborate with faculty and course staff to ensure that exam integrity is upheld while implementing complex student accommodations

For students

ATP is built from the ground up with the student exam experience in mind. Students:

  • Can always review and manage their exam schedules in one central location (SDS Online Services) for participating classes
  • Can select alternate times to take exams if conflicts arise so that they do not have to miss attending class due to conflicts with use of accommodations
  • Receive email reminders for their exams and have access to the SDS-ATP team for any exam support issues

For faculty

Providing support for students with accommodations is a complex, time-consuming task. By partnering with ATP, faculty can rely on uniform implementation of exam accommodations for their students, resulting in a consistent experience across exams. By leveraging support for hundreds of classes every semester, ATP will:

  • Manage complex room reservations/assignments that specifically fulfill exam accommodations (such as reduced distraction settings & private rooms)
  • Provide timely & consistent communication with students & faculty regarding their accommodations, exam schedules, and academic exam conflict management
  • Utilize highly skilled, reliable proctor support during exams from an SDS-trained pool of Cornell graduate students
