Guide to Applying for On-Campus Housing and Requesting Housing Disability Accommodations

Newly admitted students: please be sure to submit the housing preference form on the new students' website once it becomes available in addition to submitting the disability self-disclosure form on our website. The information below is for students currently at Cornell.

Process for Current First Year Students:

  1. Attend a Housing Info Session or Q & A to learn about your housing options for next year and the on-campus housing application process (see below for complete list of events occurring in Fall and early Spring).  If you live in a Program House and wish to remain there, avail yourself of their Continued Occupancy Program now to secure a room for next year.
  2. Apply to Live on Campus for 2017-2018:  Wednesday January 25th is the first day to apply to live on campus for next year.  The online application will go live that day and will be available on the Housing website, emailed to you from the Housing Office, and on the SDS Facebook page.  All students must apply to indicate their desire to live on campus next year and to generate their housing contract!
  3. Request Disability Housing Accommodations for 2017-2018: First year students seeking housing accommodations for next year must meet with your SDS Counselor at the start of Spring semester (by no later than February 17th).  The purpose of a housing accommodation is to address the access need related to your disability.  You may be asked to provide updated medical documentation that supports your request. If you are approved for housing accommodations for next year, SDS will work with the Housing Office before general room selection to assign you to a room. This means you will not participate in the open lottery general room selection process/room blocking (which occurs March 13-17, 2017) because you will receive your housing assignment/contract before then.

 Process for Upper Level Students:

  1. Participate in Community’s Continued Occupancy Program: Since on campus housing is not guaranteed for rising juniors and seniors, anyone living on West Campus, in a Program House, or in Collegetown should avail themselves now of their community’s Continued Occupancy (CO) Program to secure a room for next year.
  2. Learn about On-Campus Housing Options and Process:  If you are interested in moving into another community on campus, consider attending a Housing Info Session, Q and A, and/or tours taking place in Fall and early Spring semester to learn more about applying to move elsewhere (see list below for these opportunities).
  3. Apply to Live on Campus for 2017-2018:  Wednesday January 25th is the first day to apply to live on campus for next year.  The online application will go live that day and will be available on the Housing website and emailed to you from the Housing Office. SDS will also provide a link to it via their Facebook page.  All students must apply to indicate their desire to live on campus next year and to generate their housing contract!
  4. Participate in the In-House Continued Occupancy Room Selection Process:
    • Monday February 13th-Wednesday February 15th: West Campus CO Room Selection
    • Monday February 27th: Collegetown Residence Halls CO Room Selection
    • Wednesday March 1st and Thursday March 2nd: Program House Room Selection
If you are unable to secure a room via CO process, let your SDS Counselor know immediately after the CO room selection process! You may be asked to provide updated medical documentation supporting your need for accessible housing.
